After cancelling their 2020 event due to Covid 19, the Australian Camp Oven Festival is set to make a triumphant return in October with over 1,200 campsites already sold for the event.
The tiny township of Millmerran, Queensland expects to welcome over 8,000 visitors for the festival which organisers are hailing as a welcome boost for the local community.
Festival Organiser, Katrina Grundon advised it was great to see the event being so well supported.
Said Katrina, “The Festival plays such a pivotal role in our community so having to cancel in 2020 was extremely disappointing.
“Our event is a major economic driver for Millmerran and the wider region so it’s fantastic to see that we will be back in 2021 and with a great deal of visitor support behind us.”
Katrina advised the festival opened 1,240 campsites for sale on 1 July, of which over 80% sold within the first 48 hours.
Said Katrina, “It really was unbelievable. We are a volunteer committee run event and to see the number of people that booked tickets and pledged their support for us has been really touching.
“We are hoping that this year people within the drive market will also see the festival as a great day out and make the short trip out to us in Millmerran.
“For those that haven’t previously been to one of our events, it’s a great opportunity to discover our country way of life and experience traditional bush skills and camp oven cooking techniques that are uniquely Australian.
“Visitors to this year’s festival can experience traditional camp oven cooking and enjoy a range of workshops and displays such as blacksmithing and much more.
“You can always try your hand at our damper throwing or billy boiling competitions for a bit of fun too.”
The 2021 Australian Camp Oven Festival will be held from the 1 to 3 October in Millmerran, Queensland. Tickets and camping sites are now on sale.
